Currently, not too much is known about Shin's past. What we do know is that his parents are neglectful or simply do not care for him as he is missing from home far too much and his parents never seem to worry about him. Shin was the only one to respond to the posters Hachi set up when Nana's band needed a bassist. Shin tried out for the band, and Nana, Nobu, and Hachi were extremely impressed. Hachi felt that they belonged together, and when Nana asked who was the bassist he idolized, he happily responded "Honjo Ren!" who unbeknownst to Hachi, was the original bass player for Blast, and then went on to play for Trapnest. He is accepted into the band with the condition that he "surpass Ren" which he happily obliged to.
While he looked like a cute and sweet boy, this changed as time went on. Shin gradually gained more piercings, more notably an ear piercing with a chain that connected with a lip piercing. He even started to spike his hair up and wear more punk like clothes. It was later revealed that while he occasionally stayed with Nobu, he frequently slept at many different women's houses. Shin had a side job of selling himself for money and a place to stay. Shin also frequently smokes and drinks despite being under age, and though he is sometimes scolded for it, it is generally not seen as a problem and he does what he likes none the less.
Despite his many vices, Shin is not a bad person. He is a good and loyal friend who will listen and even offer opinions and cryptic advice. He seems to adore Hachi (Nana K.) to the point where he starts calling her mama. He has a rather complicated relationship with the singer of Trapnest, Reira, and while he does care about her, he seems to avoid her and any discussion about her.
